Job Description

You'll build and ship features that real users touch every day, for an insurance company software team in Vereeniging. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

Home base is an insurance company software team on the Vereeniging side of Gauteng. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

The work, day to day

Write, test and refactor code in your team's main language
Design database tables and write efficient SQL queries
Join daily stand-ups and sprint planning
Review teammates' pull requests with useful comments
Write unit and integration tests before you merge
Deploy through a CI/CD pipeline on Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions or GitLab

What you need

Commercial experience in at least one of PHP, C#, Java, Python or JavaScript
Stable internet and a quiet workspace for remote days
Solid Git habits: branches, pull requests and meaningful commit messages
You can explain technical choices to non-technical people
Good SQL and understanding of relational databases
A computer science or IT qualification, or a portfolio that proves you can build

Nice if you have

Docker and Kubernetes experience
Experience in regulated sectors such as banking or medical schemes
Knowledge of secure coding and the OWASP Top 10
