Junior Bookkeeper (Xero) – Fixed-Term

A construction contractor in Umhlanga needs a bookkeeper who closes the month on time, every month. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

Home base is a construction contractor on the Umhlanga side of KwaZulu-Natal. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• Update customer credit limits and put accounts on hold when needed
• Keep the filing system in order for the annual audit or review
• Send customer statements and phone accounts that are over 60 days
• Match orders, delivery notes and invoices before a payment goes out
• Reconcile creditors statements and sort out differences with suppliers
• Prepare VAT201 workings for the accountant to submit on SARS eFiling

• Understanding of VAT input and output rules
• Good with Excel: VLOOKUP, pivot tables and simple formulas
• Bookkeeping certificate or diploma (ICB, FASSET learnership or similar)
• Accurate with figures and careful with supplier bank details

• Thirteenth cheque at many small firms
• Hybrid work after probation at some practices
• Paid study leave for bookkeeping exams
• Office hours with no weekend work

• Name the accounting packages you use daily in your CV headline, such as "Sage Pastel Partner, Xero, Excel".
• Recruiters often give a short Excel or recon test, so practise a bank recon before the interview.
