Job Description

Service is busy at this conference centre kitchen in Gqeberha, so steady hands and a tidy station matter here. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

Location: Gqeberha, Eastern Cape. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

The work, day to day

Cook steaks, burgers and grills to the temperature on the docket.
Receive deliveries, check weights and reject short-dated produce.
Log fridge and freezer temperatures twice a shift on the HACCP sheet.
Prep veg, sauces, marinades and portions from the daily mise en place list.
Cook for banquets and conference lunches of 100 to 400 guests.

What you need

You take instruction from the head chef without drama
1 to 3 years in a busy commercial kitchen
Weekend, holiday and evening work is part of the deal
A culinary certificate or City & Guilds, or solid on-the-job experience
You know food safety basics under R638 and HACCP
Good knife skills and you can prep at speed

Nice if you have

Experience with combi ovens and batch cooking
Halaal or kosher kitchen experience

On offer

Transport allowance for split and late shifts
Chef whites and safety shoes provided
Two staff meals per shift
On-the-job training with a path to chef de partie
