Kitchen Assistant (Prep & Scullery) – Permanent

You'll cook fast, clean food on the line at a city hotel kitchen in Richards Bay. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

Home base is a city hotel kitchen on the Richards Bay side of KwaZulu-Natal. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• Receive deliveries, check weights and reject short-dated produce.
• Run your station during service and call back every ticket from the pass.
• Train the kitchen assistants on knife safety and prep standards.
• Log fridge and freezer temperatures twice a shift on the HACCP sheet.
• Clean down your section, deep-clean the fryer and scrub the extractor filters.

• Weekend, holiday and evening work is part of the deal
• Comfortable in heat, on your feet, for long split shifts
• You take instruction from the head chef without drama
• A culinary certificate or City & Guilds, or solid on-the-job experience

• Pastry or bakery training
• Halaal or kosher kitchen experience

• Chef whites and safety shoes provided
• On-the-job training with a path to chef de partie
• Two staff meals per shift
• Transport allowance for split and late shifts

• Expect a trade test: bring your own knives, arrive early and clean as you go the whole time.
• List your stations (grill, pastry, cold, sauce) under each job; head chefs scan for this first.
