Kitchen Assistant (Prep & Scullery)

Behind every good plate at this wood-fired pizzeria in White River is a cook who preps properly, and that could be you. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

Location: White River, Mpumalanga. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• Bake breads, pastries or desserts for the morning buffet.
• Cook steaks, burgers and grills to the temperature on the docket.
• Train the kitchen assistants on knife safety and prep standards.
• Log fridge and freezer temperatures twice a shift on the HACCP sheet.
• Clean down your section, deep-clean the fryer and scrub the extractor filters.
• Plate to the spec photo so every dish looks the same.
• Help cost recipes and track waste on the weekly sheet.

• You take instruction from the head chef without drama
• A culinary certificate or City & Guilds, or solid on-the-job experience
• You know food safety basics under R638 and HACCP
• Weekend, holiday and evening work is part of the deal

• Halaal or kosher kitchen experience
• Experience with combi ovens and batch cooking

• Transport allowance for split and late shifts
• Two staff meals per shift
• Live-in accommodation at lodge postings

• List your stations (grill, pastry, cold, sauce) under each job; head chefs scan for this first.
• Do not leave gaps unexplained; if you did casual banquet work between jobs, say so on your CV.
