Legal Counsel (Compliance and POPIA) – Immediate Start

A personal injury and medical negligence firm in Roodepoort needs an attorney who can draft, advise and stand up in court. This is a good step for someone who wants proper routine and a manager who notices good work.

This post is Roodepoort-based, with most of your time spent at a personal injury and medical negligence firm. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• Appear in the magistrate's court, CCMA, Labour Court or High Court as your matters need
• Review company processes for POPIA and privacy compliance
• Supervise and train candidate attorneys and paralegals
• Advise clients on risk, settlement and next steps in plain language
• Track legislation changes that affect clients' businesses
• Manage a portfolio of litigation or advisory matters on your own
• Keep trust account instructions and fee notes accurate

• Sound judgement under deadline pressure
• At least 2 years of post-admission experience in the relevant field
• Able to manage client relationships without a senior in the room
• Enrolled with the Legal Practice Council and holding a current Fidelity Fund certificate if you handle trust money
• LLB and admission as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa

• Certificate in data protection or compliance
• LLM or postgraduate certificate in your specialist area
• Experience on bank or insurer panels
