Live-In Housekeeper and Nanny

You'll keep a townhouse in a security complex in Khayelitsha clean, calm and running smoothly for the family. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

This post is Khayelitsha-based, with most of your time spent at a townhouse in a security complex. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

• Dust furniture, ornaments and skirting boards
• Get children ready for school and supervise homework in the afternoon
• Prepare simple meals or school lunches when asked
• Wash dishes and keep the kitchen tidy after meals
• Wash, hang, iron and fold the household's laundry
• Water indoor plants and feed pets
• Clean bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen and living areas on a weekly rotation

• Willing to follow the family's house rules and routines
• Trustworthy, with references from previous employers you can share
• Neat, organised and able to work without being supervised
• South African ID or valid work permit
• Good with children and patient
• Able to speak and understand basic English

• Experience caring for an older person
• Non-smoker

• Written contract with fixed hours and duties
• Paid annual leave and public holidays as the law requires
• Own room with bathroom for live-in posts
• Transport money for live-out staff

• Say plainly what you can and cannot do: cooking, ironing, childcare, driving. It avoids arguments later and families like honesty.
• Families hire on trust, so make references your strongest part. Write the employer's name, suburb, years worked and phone number for each one.
