Livestock Handler (Cattle Feedlot)

Animals do not take weekends off, and a dairy farm near Newcastle needs caring, reliable hands. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

You'll be based at a dairy farm in Newcastle. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Feed animals the right ration at the right time
• Collect eggs or check broiler house temperatures
• Record births, deaths and treatments in the herd book
• Keep water troughs and drinkers working
• Clean pens, houses and milking equipment

• Able to live on the farm or close by
• Gentle and patient with animals
• Follows hygiene and biosecurity rules
• Comfortable around large animals
• Reliable, since animals depend on you

• Previous dairy or livestock experience
• Animal health or AgriSETA short course
• Supervisory experience for foreman roles

• Farm housing on site
• Production bonus on milk yield or growth targets
• Milk or meat rations

• Say which animals you have worked with and for how long. Farmers want someone who already knows the routine.
• Stress reliability. Explain that you understand milking or feeding cannot be skipped.
