Loss Control Officer (Mall Stores)

You'll catch shoplifting and stock losses at a supermarket in Vanderbijlpark before they cost jobs. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

You'll be based at a supermarket in Vanderbijlpark. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps.

• Record every incident with photos, times and value of goods
• Attend court as a witness when a case goes to trial
• Review CCTV footage to confirm suspected theft
• Walk the floor in plain clothes and watch for shoplifting behaviour
• Detain suspects lawfully and call SAPS, then write a statement
• Tag high-value stock and check security tags at the doors
• Help with stock counts and point out loss hot-spots

• Discreet, observant and honest
• PSIRA registration, Grade C at least
• Available for retail hours including month-end weekends
• Good report writing
• Matric or equivalent NQF Level 4

• Retail loss prevention course
• Previous store detective experience with case outcomes
• Understanding of stock systems and shrinkage reports

• Retail trading hours, no night shift in most stores
• Monthly recovery incentives
• Plain clothes work (no uniform in detective roles)
• Staff discount at the retailer

• Keep your appearance low-key for the interview. Detectives need to blend in with shoppers.
• Show you know the legal limits of search and arrest. A single unlawful arrest can cost a store badly, so they will ask about it.
