Job Description

You'll catch shoplifting and stock losses at a fashion retail store in Germiston before they cost jobs. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

You'll be based at a fashion retail store in Germiston. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps.

What your day looks like

  • Review CCTV footage to confirm suspected theft
  • Detain suspects lawfully and call SAPS, then write a statement
  • Tag high-value stock and check security tags at the doors
  • Check receiving bay deliveries against invoices and seal numbers
  • Share trends with the store manager each week
  • Help with stock counts and point out loss hot-spots
  • Search staff bags at exit points according to store policy

What you need

  • Available for retail hours including month-end weekends
  • PSIRA registration, Grade C at least
  • Good report writing
  • Discreet, observant and honest
  • Able to handle confrontation calmly

Nice if you have

  • Retail loss prevention course
  • Experience giving evidence in court

What's in it for you

  • Retail trading hours, no night shift in most stores
  • Monthly recovery incentives
  • Plain clothes work (no uniform in detective roles)

How to apply

  1. Read the "What you need" list above. If you tick most of it, go ahead and apply.
  2. Have the following on hand (clear photos on your phone are fine at first): loss prevention or investigation course certificates plus PSIRA certificate and ID copy.
  3. Send your details with the form below. Add one or two lines about similar work you've done.
  4. Keep your phone on. Shortlisted applicants are contacted by call, SMS or WhatsApp within 8 working days.

Your application joins the How2Apply talent pool for this role, and we put shortlisted people forward to employers hiring in and around Germiston.

How2Apply never charges you to apply, for training, for uniforms or for a "placement fee". If anyone asks you for money, it is a scam.

How to stand out

  • Show you know the legal limits of search and arrest. A single unlawful arrest can cost a store badly, so they will ask about it.
  • Keep your appearance low-key for the interview. Detectives need to blend in with shoppers.
