Site Security Officer (Construction Yard)

The gate at a distribution warehouse in Vanderbijlpark is the first line of safety, and you would be standing at it. Bring a calm head on busy days and you'll be fine.

Home base is a distribution warehouse on the Vanderbijlpark side of Gauteng. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Open and close boom gates for residents, deliveries and contractors
• Check visitors' IDs and capture them on the visitor app or in the gate register
• Watch for loitering, broken fencing and open doors during night patrols
• Search vehicles and bags leaving the site when company policy requires it
• Test the panic button and radio when you come on duty
• Patrol the perimeter on a set route and scan checkpoint tags

• Alert, polite and firm with the public
• Able to work 12-hour day and night shifts, including weekends
• Physically fit for foot patrols
• Clean criminal record
• Speaks and writes basic English

• Previous experience at a similar site type
• Firefighting or evacuation training
• A Code 8 licence for vehicle patrols

• Paid night-shift allowance under the security sector rules
• Provident fund contributions
• Uniform, boots and winter jacket issued
• Chance to be upgraded to Grade B with training

• Make sure your PSIRA fees are paid. A lapsed registration gets your CV thrown out, even if you have years of experience.
• List the types of sites you have guarded, like estate, mall or factory. Security companies place officers by site experience.
