Machine Assistant (Plastics Moulding)

You'll keep the line running at a snack food factory in Umlazi, feeding, checking and packing product all shift. This is a good step for someone who wants proper routine and a manager who notices good work.

This post is in Umlazi (KwaZulu-Natal). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Feed raw material or empty packaging into the machine at the start of the line
• Check product for size, weight and seal faults and pull out rejects
• Hand over at shift change with notes on rejects and stoppages
• Move full bins and crates to the next station with a trolley
• Help the machine operator clear jams and reload hoppers
• Pack finished product into cases and stack them by batch number

• You follow hygiene rules without being reminded
• Basic reading and counting for batch sheets
• Available for rotating day and night shifts
• Able to stand for a full shift in a noisy, warm area
• Medically fit; some food plants ask for a medical check

• Experience assisting on a packaging or filling machine
• A food handler or basic HACCP awareness certificate

• Staff shop with discounted factory products
• Night-shift allowance on top of basic pay
• Path to machine operator after six months
• Company transport on some night shifts

• Mention that you can work rotating shifts right at the top. It is the first thing most factories filter on.
• Do not wear jewellery or long nails to the interview if it is on site. Food factories notice and it counts.
