Maintenance Fitter (Food Factory)

You'll keep machines turning and parts in spec at the sugar mill in Paarl. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

You'll be based at a sugar mill in Paarl. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• Record work and spares used on the job card or CMMS
• Follow the lockout procedure before any work on machinery
• Program and run CNC machines from engineering drawings
• Respond to breakdowns and get the line running again safely
• Help with electrical fault-finding on motors and sensors as a millwright
• Align shafts with a laser alignment tool after every drive change
• Maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems on production lines

• Basic understanding of the General Machinery Regulations
• At least 2 years as a qualified artisan in a factory or workshop
• N2 or N3 engineering subjects
• Own basic hand tools, or willing to build up a set

• Millwright trade test, since it covers both mechanical and electrical
• CNC programming experience
• Forklift licence for moving heavy parts

• Shift and standby allowances
• Chance to study further toward a technician diploma
• Paid overtime on shutdowns

• Write your trade and trade test year first, then the machines you know, like "Filling lines, pumps, gearboxes".
• If you can machine parts as well as fit them, say so clearly. Many factories want both skills in one person.
