Maintenance Technician (Electro-Mechanical)

The beverage bottling plant in Secunda needs an artisan who can fix a breakdown fast and machine a part when needed. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

Home base is a beverage bottling plant on the Secunda side of Mpumalanga.

• Replace bearings, seals and couplings on pumps, gearboxes and motors
• Align shafts with a laser alignment tool after every drive change
• Inspect and adjust conveyors, chains and sprockets
• Record work and spares used on the job card or CMMS
• Machine shafts, bushes and keyways on a lathe and milling machine
• Follow the lockout procedure before any work on machinery
• Build and repair press tools, jigs and moulds

• Willing to work shifts, standby and weekend shutdowns
• Own basic hand tools, or willing to build up a set
• N2 or N3 engineering subjects
• Trade test as Fitter and Turner, Fitter, Millwright or Toolmaker
• At least 2 years as a qualified artisan in a factory or workshop

• Shift and standby allowances
• Paid overtime on shutdowns
• Chance to study further toward a technician diploma
• Tool allowance

• Expect a practical test. Measure twice and work cleanly, because the assessor watches your habits as much as the result.
• Write your trade and trade test year first, then the machines you know, like "Filling lines, pumps, gearboxes".
