Job Description

A home tutoring agency in Mbombela needs a patient tutor who can turn a failing mark into a pass. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

You'll report in Mbombela. Relocation is not covered for this one.

What you'll actually do

Assess a new learner's level with a short diagnostic test
Prepare learners for control tests with short timed practice drills
Adjust your pace for learners with ADHD, dyslexia or anxiety
Work through past exam papers and marking memos with learners
Teach one-on-one or in small groups of up to six
Plan sessions that target the exact topics the learner is failing
Log hours and sessions on the agency's booking system for payment

What you need

Available at least three afternoons or evenings a week
Clear, patient way of explaining ideas
Currently studying at university, or holding a degree or diploma
Reliable internet and a quiet place to teach for online posts

Nice if you have

TEFL or TESOL certificate for English tutoring
Second language for learners who study in Afrikaans or isiZulu
Experience with IEB as well as CAPS papers

What's in it for you

Work from home on online posts
Flexible hours you choose each week
Hourly rate that rises with your ratings and results
Free training on the tutoring platform

Applying, step by step

Read the "What you need" list above. If you tick most of it, go ahead and apply.
Get these ready, because shortlisted people are asked for them straight away: academic transcript showing your subject marks plus police clearance for tutoring children.
Use the form on this page. It takes about two minutes and you don't need to upload anything yet.
Keep your phone on. Shortlisted applicants are contacted by call, SMS or WhatsApp within 6 working days.

How2Apply recruits for this position on behalf of hiring employers around Mbombela; applications go into our talent pool and shortlisted candidates are introduced directly.

How2Apply never charges you to apply, for training, for uniforms or for a "placement fee". If anyone asks you for money, it is a scam.

How to stand out

Lead with your own mark in the subject, such as "Maths 89% (NSC)"; tutoring agencies filter by marks.
Record a two-minute video explaining one tough concept; it often gets you booked faster than a CV.
