Mechanical Engineer (GMR 2.1 Appointment)

Design it, build it, fix it: mechanical engineering work at the engineering consultancy in Pretoria East. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

This post is Pretoria East-based, with most of your time spent at an engineering consultancy. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Write scopes of work and compare contractor quotes
• Mentor candidate engineers and artisans on technical problems
• Hold the GMR 2.1 appointment and keep machinery safety legal on site
• Plan and track preventive maintenance in the CMMS with the artisans and planners
• Manage shutdowns: planning, spares, contractors and safe restart
• Design conveyors, chutes and structures in SolidWorks or Inventor
• Run vibration, thermography and oil analysis programmes on critical equipment

• Registered with ECSA as Pr Eng, Pr Tech Eng or Candidate, depending on level
• BEng or BSc Eng in Mechanical Engineering, or a BTech or Advanced Diploma for technologist roles
• Confident with 3D CAD software and engineering calculations
• Code 08 licence for site visits

• Finite element analysis skills
• Government Certificate of Competency (Mechanical, Factories)

• ECSA registration fees and CPD paid
• Medical aid and retirement fund contributions
• Performance bonus tied to plant availability
• Company laptop and CAD licences

• Keep the CV to three pages. Link to a short portfolio of designs rather than attaching large files.
• Show results in numbers: downtime cut by a percentage, savings in rand, or a project delivered on budget.
