Job Description

Bearings, gearboxes, pumps and lathes: this plastics injection moulding factory in Epping needs your hands on them. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

This post is in Epping (Western Cape). Please only apply if you can travel there daily.

What you'll actually do

  • Help with electrical fault-finding on motors and sensors as a millwright
  • Machine shafts, bushes and keyways on a lathe and milling machine
  • Maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems on production lines
  • Align shafts with a laser alignment tool after every drive change
  • Replace bearings, seals and couplings on pumps, gearboxes and motors
  • Build and repair press tools, jigs and moulds

You'll need

  • Willing to work shifts, standby and weekend shutdowns
  • At least 2 years as a qualified artisan in a factory or workshop
  • Own basic hand tools, or willing to build up a set
  • Trade test as Fitter and Turner, Fitter, Millwright or Toolmaker

Helpful, not essential

  • Hydraulic and pneumatic courses
  • Millwright trade test, since it covers both mechanical and electrical
  • Food safety awareness for food and drink plants

On offer

  • Shift and standby allowances
  • Tool allowance
  • Paid overtime on shutdowns
  • Chance to study further toward a technician diploma

How to apply

  1. Check you meet the must-haves first; recruiters filter on those before anything else.
  2. Keep copies of these ready to send: certified copy of your identity document or smart card, trade test certificate plus N-certificates plus references from maintenance managers.
  3. Use the form on this page. It takes about two minutes and you don't need to upload anything yet.
  4. Watch for a call or WhatsApp from How2Apply over the next 7 working days.

How to stand out

  • If you can machine parts as well as fit them, say so clearly. Many factories want both skills in one person.
  • Write your trade and trade test year first, then the machines you know, like "Filling lines, pumps, gearboxes".
