Job Description

You'll keep machines turning and parts in spec at the beverage bottling plant in Germiston. This is a good step for someone who wants proper routine and a manager who notices good work.

You'll be based at a beverage bottling plant in Germiston. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

What your day looks like

  • Respond to breakdowns and get the line running again safely
  • Align shafts with a laser alignment tool after every drive change
  • Build and repair press tools, jigs and moulds
  • Help with electrical fault-finding on motors and sensors as a millwright
  • Record work and spares used on the job card or CMMS
  • Program and run CNC machines from engineering drawings

What you need

  • You read engineering drawings and measure with micrometers and verniers
  • Trade test as Fitter and Turner, Fitter, Millwright or Toolmaker
  • Basic understanding of the General Machinery Regulations
  • Own basic hand tools, or willing to build up a set
  • N2 or N3 engineering subjects

On offer

  • Paid overtime on shutdowns
  • Tool allowance
  • Shift and standby allowances

How to apply

  1. Read the "What you need" list above. If you tick most of it, go ahead and apply.
  2. Have the following on hand (clear photos on your phone are fine at first): trade test certificate plus N-certificates plus certified copy of your identity document or smart card.
  3. Send your details with the form below. Add one or two lines about similar work you've done.
  4. If you're shortlisted you'll hear from us within 10 working days, usually by phone.

Before you hit apply

  • Expect a practical test. Measure twice and work cleanly, because the assessor watches your habits as much as the result.
  • If you can machine parts as well as fit them, say so clearly. Many factories want both skills in one person.
