Millwright (Production Plant) – Fixed-Term

You'll keep machines turning and parts in spec at the packaging manufacturer in Mbombela. People who do well here are steady, honest and not scared to ask when something is unclear.

The site is in Mbombela; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems on production lines
• Machine shafts, bushes and keyways on a lathe and milling machine
• Build and repair press tools, jigs and moulds
• Program and run CNC machines from engineering drawings
• Record work and spares used on the job card or CMMS
• Help with electrical fault-finding on motors and sensors as a millwright
• Respond to breakdowns and get the line running again safely

• Trade test as Fitter and Turner, Fitter, Millwright or Toolmaker
• Basic understanding of the General Machinery Regulations
• At least 2 years as a qualified artisan in a factory or workshop
• N2 or N3 engineering subjects
• You read engineering drawings and measure with micrometers and verniers

• Food safety awareness for food and drink plants
• Forklift licence for moving heavy parts
• Hydraulic and pneumatic courses

• Paid overtime on shutdowns
• Tool allowance
• Shift and standby allowances
• Chance to study further toward a technician diploma

• Write your trade and trade test year first, then the machines you know, like "Filling lines, pumps, gearboxes".
• If you can machine parts as well as fit them, say so clearly. Many factories want both skills in one person.
