Miner Assistant (Underground) – Experienced

Have a blasting certificate and a clean safety record? The deep-level gold mine near Mokopane needs your crew leadership. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

Home base is a deep-level gold mine on the Mokopane side of Limpopo. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Stop work when a condition is unsafe, using your right to withdraw
• Test for flammable gas and check ventilation before and after blasting
• Record face advance, tons broken and support installed on the shift report
• Charge up holes and connect initiation systems for the blast
• Mark off drilling holes to the standard pattern and check the drilling
• Bar down loose rock and install support to the section's support standard
• Do the early entry examination and make the workplace safe before the crew enters

• Certificate of fitness from the mine medical station, including heat tolerance screening where required
• Able to lead a crew of 8 to 20 people in a language they understand
• No serious safety transgressions in your record
• At least 3 years underground, with at least 1 as a certificated miner
• Sound knowledge of your commodity's mining method and support standards

• First aid certificate current
• Rock engineering or ventilation short courses

• Medical aid and mine medical station access
• Pension fund with employer contributions
• Underground allowance for every shift below surface
• Housing or living-out allowance

• Mines check your safety record with previous employers. Mention any safety awards or zero-harm periods your crew achieved.
• Be honest about any section 54 stoppages you were involved in and what you changed after.
