Miner (Conventional Gold Mining) – Fixed-Term

This deep-level gold mine near Polokwane needs a miner who makes every workplace safe before a single hole is drilled. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

The work is in Polokwane, Limpopo, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day. Start date: as soon as possible for the right person.

• Stop work when a condition is unsafe, using your right to withdraw
• Book explosives in and out of the magazine and keep the register accurate
• Bar down loose rock and install support to the section's support standard
• Clear the area, post guards and blast on time as the blasting certificate allows
• Charge up holes and connect initiation systems for the blast
• Mark off drilling holes to the standard pattern and check the drilling

• Grade 12 or equivalent, plus the MQA-accredited miner training
• Sound knowledge of your commodity's mining method and support standards
• Able to lead a crew of 8 to 20 people in a language they understand
• Certificate of fitness from the mine medical station, including heat tolerance screening where required
• Valid blasting certificate issued under the Mine Health and Safety Act
• At least 3 years underground, with at least 1 as a certificated miner

• First aid certificate current
• Experience in trackless mechanised sections

• Medical aid and mine medical station access
• Production bonus based on metres or square metres achieved
• Pension fund with employer contributions

• Be honest about any section 54 stoppages you were involved in and what you changed after.
• Write your blasting certificate number and date of issue near the top of the CV.
