Nursery Worker (Seedlings)

Harvest time on a commercial seedling nursery near Mokopane means early mornings, full crates and paid overtime. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

Home base is a commercial seedling nursery on the Mokopane side of Limpopo. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Follow the re-entry times after spraying, as the signs show
• Clean and store picking bags, ladders and secateurs
• Plant seedlings in rows at the spacing shown
• Move irrigation pipes and check drippers for blockages
• Pick fruit or vegetables at the right ripeness and size, gently

• Careful with fruit, since bruised fruit is rejected
• Physically fit for bending, lifting and climbing ladders
• Willing to start at sunrise
• Valid ID or work permit
• Follows farm hygiene and safety rules
• Available for the full harvest season

• Previous harvest or picking experience
• Pruning experience on vines or fruit trees

• Seasonal accommodation on some farms
• Piece-rate bonus on top of daily wage
• Farm transport from nearby towns
• Chance of a permanent post after good seasons

• Have your bank details ready. Most farms pay into a bank account and will not start you without it.
• Farms hire before the season starts, so apply four to six weeks early. Late arrivals often find the teams already full.
