Nursing Assistant (Rehabilitation Unit)

A private medical ward in Krugersdorp needs someone kind and reliable to look after patients who can't manage alone. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

This post is Krugersdorp-based, with most of your time spent at a private medical ward. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Do simple wound dressings and report anything that looks infected
• Take and chart temperature, pulse, blood pressure and blood glucose
• Keep the fluid and food intake charts accurate for every patient
• Hand out oral medication under the supervision of a registered nurse
• Help patients walk, transfer from bed to chair and do their exercises
• Follow infection control rules, including hand hygiene and safe sharps disposal
• Keep families updated on routine matters and pass clinical questions to the sister

• SANC enrolment as an Enrolled Nurse or Enrolled Nursing Auxiliary for nursing posts
• Accredited home-based care or ancillary health care certificate for caregiver posts
• At least 1 year of hands-on patient care
• Physically strong enough to lift and move patients safely
• Matric or NQF Level 4 equivalent

• Code B or Code 8 driver's licence for home visits
• Experience in a frail care or hospice setting
• A second South African language spoken by the patients you'll serve

• Uniform supplied
• Overtime paid at time and a half
• Transport home after late shifts at some facilities

• Name the type of patients you've cared for, such as stroke patients or dementia residents, in your first CV line.
• If you're a caregiver, attach the certificate from the training provider, not just a letter saying you attended.
