Occupational Hygiene Officer (Mine)

You'll make safety real on the ground at the mining contractor on a platinum lease near Mahikeng, not just on paper. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

Location: Mahikeng, North West. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first.

• Help run emergency drills and check refuge bays
• Train safety representatives and support the health and safety committee
• Inspect workplaces underground and on surface against the MHSA and the mine's standards
• Prepare for inspections by the mine inspector and follow up on instructions
• Check that crews do planned task observations and pre-shift checks

• Certificate of fitness to go underground or into the pit
• At least 3 years in a safety role at a mine
• Confident writing investigation reports and presenting findings
• Registered with SAIOSH, or working toward it
• SAMTRAC or an MQA-accredited mine safety qualification

• Mine rescue training
• ISO 45001 auditing experience
• Diploma or degree in Safety Management or Environmental Health

• CPD and further study funded
• Retirement fund and medical aid
• Company vehicle on site
• Standby allowance for incident call-outs

• Show your mining sector safety experience clearly. Construction-only safety CVs are often moved to the no pile.
