Orchard Worker (Pruning and Thinning) – Experienced

You'll pick, prune and look after crops on a vegetable farm near Gqeberha through the season. Bring a calm head on busy days and you'll be fine.

You'll be based at a vegetable farm in Gqeberha. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps.

• Tie up tomato and pepper plants in tunnels
• Plant seedlings in rows at the spacing shown
• Wash hands and use the field toilets for food safety
• Follow the re-entry times after spraying, as the signs show
• Prune and thin fruit trees and vines to the farm's method
• Move irrigation pipes and check drippers for blockages

• Follows farm hygiene and safety rules
• Valid ID or work permit
• Available for the full harvest season
• Able to work outdoors in heat, cold and rain
• Careful with fruit, since bruised fruit is rejected

• Seasonal accommodation on some farms
• Farm transport from nearby towns
• Piece-rate bonus on top of daily wage
• Chance of a permanent post after good seasons

• Farms hire before the season starts, so apply four to six weeks early. Late arrivals often find the teams already full.
• Have your bank details ready. Most farms pay into a bank account and will not start you without it.
