Paint Preparer (Body Shop)

You'll bring accident-damaged cars back to factory standard at the independent panel shop in Phalaborwa. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

Location: Phalaborwa, Limpopo. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

• Cut and polish to remove dust marks and orange peel
• Mix paint colours with a spectrophotometer and the mixing scheme
• Repair dents with hammers, dollies and a stud welder
• Pull and straighten chassis damage on a measuring jig
• Apply filler, sand and prime to a smooth, ready surface
• Spray base coat and 2K clear coat in the booth

• Good colour vision and a steady hand
• Knowledge of spray booth safety and respirator use
• Panel beating or spray painting trade test, or at least 4 years of proven work
• Physically able to stand, bend and kneel for long periods
• A portfolio or references from previous body shops
• Experience with modern waterborne or high-solids paint systems

• ADAS camera and sensor recalibration after repairs
• Aluminium and high-strength steel repair training

• Clean, modern booth and prep area
• Full respirator and spray suit supplied
• Paint supplier training courses

• Expect a practical test panel. Arrive early so you can see the booth and equipment first.
• Say which paint systems you have used, like waterborne base coat with a 2K clear. Body shops care about this.
