Painter (New Builds & Refurbishments)

You'll build it with your hands: walls, floors, roofs and finishes on the residential renovation company in Germiston. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

This post is Germiston-based, with most of your time spent at a residential renovation company. Overtime comes up in peak season and is paid.

• Build and strip formwork for columns, beams and slabs
• Lay paving on a compacted, levelled bedding sand layer
• Cut, bend and tie reinforcing steel to the bending schedule
• Clean your tools and sweep your work area before knocking off
• Mix mortar and plaster to the right ratio for the job
• Lay face brick and plaster brick to line, level and plumb
• Prime and paint walls, ceilings and woodwork in two or three coats

• Physically strong enough for a full day of lifting and bending outside
• Safety boots of your own for the first week, if possible
• Punctual every morning, even in winter
• Able to follow a foreman's instructions and read basic measurements

• Your own trowels, levels and tile cutter
• Trade test in bricklaying, carpentry or plastering

• Weekly or fortnightly pay, always on time
• Chance to move up to a gang leader post
• PPE supplied: hard hat, gloves, reflective vest
• Transport from a pick-up point to site

• Be ready to do a short practical test on site. Arrive early with your own tools if you have them.
• Bring photos of your work on your phone. A foreman believes a straight wall more than a long CV.
