Painter's Assistant (Renovations)

Strong, willing hands are wanted on a school building project in Sandton. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

This post is in Sandton (Gauteng). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• Cut and lay paving bricks along string lines
• Pass tools and materials to the plumber or electrician as needed
• Dig trenches and foundations to the depth the foreman marks
• Carry bricks, blocks and cement bags to where the bricklayers work
• Sign the daily safety talk register before work starts

• Physically strong and fit for outdoor work in all weather
• You take safety rules seriously and wear full PPE
• Willing to start early, often at 06:30
• Able to follow instructions from a foreman or artisan
• A clean record is preferred for some government sites

• Overtime on weekend pours and deadline days
• Learn from artisans with a chance to move up to assistant
• Boots, hard hat and overalls issued on site
• Paid weekly or fortnightly

• If a foreman can vouch for you, put their number on your CV. Site hiring runs on word of mouth.
• Government-funded projects often reserve jobs for people from the local ward. Bring proof of address and ask the site office about the local labour desk.
