Patient Accounts Officer (Private Hospital)

At a medical billing bureau in Rosslyn, your job is clean files, correct codes and money that comes in on time. This is a good step for someone who wants proper routine and a manager who notices good work.

This post is Rosslyn-based, with most of your time spent at a medical billing bureau.

• Answer the phones and send clinical questions to the right nurse or doctor
• Request pre-authorisation for scans, procedures and admissions
• Keep patient records locked and share them only with written consent
• Chase short payments with medical schemes and patients
• Take payments, issue receipts and balance the cash-up at close
• Open patient files and capture consent forms in line with POPIA
• Send monthly statements and age the debtors book

• Experience on a practice system such as GoodX, Elixir, Medinol or Healthbridge
• Confident with Excel and email
• Friendly on the phone and firm about outstanding accounts
• At least 2 years in a medical practice, hospital or billing bureau
• You keep patient information private, every time
• Sound knowledge of ICD-10 coding and medical aid tariff codes

• Bookkeeping basics or Pastel knowledge for practice accounts
• Understanding of how HPCSA practitioner and BHF practice numbers are used on claims
• Experience with hospital case management and pre-auth

• Specialist rooms care about the discipline, so say if you've coded for surgeons, anaesthetists or radiologists.
