Paving Team Labourer – Permanent

You'll mix, carry, dig and clean up so the tradespeople on a road rehabilitation project in Harrismith can keep building. Good for someone who wants to build a solid track record they can put on their CV.

Home base is a road rehabilitation project on the Harrismith side of Free State.

• Help offload deliveries of steel, timber and pipes
• Dig trenches and foundations to the depth the foreman marks
• Compact soil and layer bedding sand with a plate compactor
• Sign the daily safety talk register before work starts
• Erect and strip shutters and simple scaffolding under supervision
• Cut and lay paving bricks along string lines
• Mix concrete and mortar by hand or with a small mixer

• Grade 8 or higher
• Physically strong and fit for outdoor work in all weather
• Able to follow instructions from a foreman or artisan
• A clean record is preferred for some government sites
• Prepared to travel between sites in the area
• You take safety rules seriously and wear full PPE

• Previous site work you can show with a reference
• A working-at-heights or scaffolding ticket
• Living near the site (many projects hire local labour)

• Learn from artisans with a chance to move up to assistant
• Boots, hard hat and overalls issued on site
• Overtime on weekend pours and deadline days
• Paid weekly or fortnightly

• Government-funded projects often reserve jobs for people from the local ward. Bring proof of address and ask the site office about the local labour desk.
• If a foreman can vouch for you, put their number on your CV. Site hiring runs on word of mouth.
