Paving Team Labourer

Every wall and slab on this school building project in Krugersdorp needs labourers, and the crew needs one more. Good for someone who wants to build a solid track record they can put on their CV.

This post is Krugersdorp-based, with most of your time spent at a school building project. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

• Compact soil and layer bedding sand with a plate compactor
• Carry bricks, blocks and cement bags to where the bricklayers work
• Set up barriers, cones and signs around open trenches
• Pass tools and materials to the plumber or electrician as needed
• Clear rubble and load it into skips
• Sign the daily safety talk register before work starts

• Physically strong and fit for outdoor work in all weather
• Grade 8 or higher
• Prepared to travel between sites in the area
• Willing to start early, often at 06:30
• Able to follow instructions from a foreman or artisan
• A clean record is preferred for some government sites

• Registered on your ward or municipal job-seeker database
• Some experience with a jackhammer, grinder or plate compactor

• Overtime on weekend pours and deadline days
• Learn from artisans with a chance to move up to assistant
• Boots, hard hat and overalls issued on site
• Paid weekly or fortnightly

• Government-funded projects often reserve jobs for people from the local ward. Bring proof of address and ask the site office about the local labour desk.
• List past sites by name and what you did there, like "mixed concrete, laid kerbs". It proves you have done real site work.
