Job Description

Every wall and slab on this road rehabilitation project in Soweto needs labourers, and the crew needs one more. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

You'll report in Soweto. Relocation is not covered for this one. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

What your day looks like

Help offload deliveries of steel, timber and pipes
Sign the daily safety talk register before work starts
Pass tools and materials to the plumber or electrician as needed
Mix concrete and mortar by hand or with a small mixer
Clear rubble and load it into skips
Set up barriers, cones and signs around open trenches

Must-haves

Able to follow instructions from a foreman or artisan
Physically strong and fit for outdoor work in all weather
You take safety rules seriously and wear full PPE
Prepared to travel between sites in the area

Helpful, not essential

Registered on your ward or municipal job-seeker database
Living near the site (many projects hire local labour)
