Want to grow as a chef? This hospital catering unit in Pinetown gives you real stations and real volume. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

You'll be based at a hospital catering unit in Pinetown. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Bake breads, pastries or desserts for the morning buffet.
• Cook for banquets and conference lunches of 100 to 400 guests.
• Cook steaks, burgers and grills to the temperature on the docket.
• Log fridge and freezer temperatures twice a shift on the HACCP sheet.
• Plate to the spec photo so every dish looks the same.
• Clean down your section, deep-clean the fryer and scrub the extractor filters.
• Train the kitchen assistants on knife safety and prep standards.

• 1 to 3 years in a busy commercial kitchen
• Comfortable in heat, on your feet, for long split shifts
• Good knife skills and you can prep at speed
• You know food safety basics under R638 and HACCP

• Experience with combi ovens and batch cooking
• Halaal or kosher kitchen experience

• On-the-job training with a path to chef de partie
• Two staff meals per shift
• Transport allowance for split and late shifts

• Expect a trade test: bring your own knives, arrive early and clean as you go the whole time.
• Do not leave gaps unexplained; if you did casual banquet work between jobs, say so on your CV.
