Planter Operator (Maize)

You'll drive tractors and farm machines on a wheat farm near Harrismith through planting and harvest. This role rewards consistency more than flash.

Home base is a wheat farm on the Harrismith side of Free State. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• Mix and apply sprays exactly as the farm manager prescribes
• Plant rows straight, using GPS guidance where the tractor has it
• Hook up and drive ploughs, discs, planters and sprayers
• Check oil, water, tyres and grease points before starting
• Report breakdowns and help the mechanic with repairs

• Basic understanding of implements and settings
• Reliable and sober on duty
• Available to live on or near the farm
• Willing to work long hours in planting and harvest seasons

• Basic mechanical skills
• Combine harvester experience
• A pesticide application or spray course

• Harvest bonus at season end
• Farm housing with water and electricity
• Training on new machinery
