Plater and Fabricator (Tanks & Hoppers)

Strong welding and plate work for the pressure vessel manufacturer in Hammarsdale, with real drawings and real tolerances. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

The work is in Hammarsdale, KwaZulu-Natal, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day.

• Cut and bevel plate with oxy-fuel, plasma and a bevelling machine
• Fit up beams, columns and bracing with the correct gaps and alignment
• TIG weld stainless steel tanks and fittings with proper back-purging
• Set up MIG and flux-cored machines for long production runs
• Read fabrication drawings and cutting lists before you mark out plate
• Follow the welding procedure specification for every joint you weld
• Prepare joints for radiographic and dye penetrant testing

• At least 2 years of production or site welding after qualifying
• Willing to work shutdowns, long shifts and weekends when the plant is down
• Steady hands and good eyesight, with or without glasses
• Valid welder coding to ISO 9606-1 or ASME IX in the processes the job needs
• You can read fabrication and isometric drawings without help
• Medical fitness certificate for industrial sites, or willing to get one

• Leather welding PPE and auto-darkening helmet supplied
• Accommodation and meals paid on out-of-town shutdowns
• Coding renewals paid by the employer
• Shutdown bonus and site allowance for work away from home

• List each coding separately with the standard, process, position and expiry date. "Coded welder" on its own tells a recruiter nothing.
• Expect a practical welding test on the first day. Bring your own gloves and chipping hammer so you feel at home.
