Plumber's Helper (Residential)

Strong, willing hands are wanted on a road rehabilitation project in Bellville. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

This post is in Bellville (Western Cape). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Set up barriers, cones and signs around open trenches
• Clear rubble and load it into skips
• Mix concrete and mortar by hand or with a small mixer
• Help offload deliveries of steel, timber and pipes
• Compact soil and layer bedding sand with a plate compactor
• Carry bricks, blocks and cement bags to where the bricklayers work
• Pass tools and materials to the plumber or electrician as needed

• You take safety rules seriously and wear full PPE
• Able to follow instructions from a foreman or artisan
• Prepared to travel between sites in the area
• Willing to start early, often at 06:30

• Registered on your ward or municipal job-seeker database
• Previous site work you can show with a reference
• Some experience with a jackhammer, grinder or plate compactor

• Overtime on weekend pours and deadline days
• Boots, hard hat and overalls issued on site
• Learn from artisans with a chance to move up to assistant

• List past sites by name and what you did there, like "mixed concrete, laid kerbs". It proves you have done real site work.
• If a foreman can vouch for you, put their number on your CV. Site hiring runs on word of mouth.
