Pre-School Teacher (4 to 5 Year Olds) – Fixed-Term

You'll care for and teach young children at a primary school aftercare programme in Bloemfontein, from nappies to first letters. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

This post is in Bloemfontein (Free State). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• Plan themes and holiday programmes with the principal
• Run morning ring with songs, weather and counting
• Watch children closely outside and keep the play area safe
• Help aftercare learners with homework and reading
• Chat to parents at drop-off and pick-up about how the day went
• Set up daily learning areas for art, blocks, reading and fantasy play
• Observe each child and note milestones in their development file

• ECD Level 4 or Level 5 qualification, or currently studying towards one
• Paediatric first aid certificate
• Warm, patient and energetic with small children
• Able to follow hygiene and safety routines without cutting corners
• Experience caring for children in a group setting, even as a volunteer

• Montessori diploma or Reggio-inspired training
• Experience with children with special needs
• Speak more than one home language of the children you'll teach

• Put your ECD level and first aid certificate in the first lines of your CV; creches check these before anything else.
• Apply for the Form 30 check early, as it can take weeks and many creches won't appoint without it.
