Job Description

You'll run patient care on a busy shift at a community day clinic in Stellenbosch, from admission to discharge. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

The site is in Stellenbosch; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

What your day looks like

  • Do wound care, catheter care and IV line management to unit protocol
  • Take handover at the bedside and plan care for your allocated patients
  • Give scheduled medication, including Schedule 5 and 6 drugs, and sign the register
  • Keep clinical notes clear, timed and signed for audits and legal records
  • Do full patient assessments and update nursing care plans every shift
  • Prepare patients for theatre and receive them back from recovery
  • Supervise enrolled nurses and nursing assistants on your side of the ward

Must-haves

  • Solid knowledge of medication safety and the Nursing Act scope of practice
  • Current SANC registration as a Professional Nurse, with this year's annual fees paid
  • Nursing qualification via the R425 diploma or R174 degree route
  • Calm under pressure when a patient's condition turns quickly

Nice if you have

  • Post-basic qualification in critical care, theatre or advanced midwifery
  • Dispensing licence (Section 22A(15)) for clinic posts

What you get

  • Medical aid and pension fund contributions after probation
  • Night-shift and weekend allowances on top of basic pay
  • Study support for post-basic specialities

Applying, step by step

  1. Check you meet the must-haves first; recruiters filter on those before anything else.
  2. Have the following on hand (clear photos on your phone are fine at first): current BLS or ACLS card, contact details for a ward or unit manager who supervised you plus certified copy of your SANC registration and current annual practising certificate.
  3. Fill in the short form below with your name and a phone number you actually answer.
  4. Keep your phone on. Shortlisted applicants are contacted by call, SMS or WhatsApp within 10 working days.

Tips to get shortlisted

  • Put your SANC number and the units you've worked in at the very top of your CV; recruiters filter on these first.
  • For night-duty posts, say clearly in your cover note that you want permanent nights, as many applicants only want days.
