Public Area Cleaner (Hotel)

You'll turn rooms around at a game lodge in Cape Town CBD so every guest walks into a room that feels new. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

You'll be based at a game lodge in Cape Town CBD. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Report maintenance faults like dripping taps or broken lights
• Strip and make beds to the hotel's standard, hospital corners included
• Do evening turndowns, closing curtains and setting out slippers
• Work through a room list, marking rooms clean on the housekeeping board
• Load, wash, dry and press linen in the hotel laundry
• Vacuum, dust and check the minibar in each room
• Log lost property with the guest's room number and date

• Honest, since you work in guests' rooms alone
• Grade 10 or matric
• Physically able to push trolleys and turn mattresses
• Quick and thorough, with a target of about 14 to 16 rooms a shift
• Available on weekends, holidays and in peak season

• Share of the service charge or guest tips
• Meals on duty from the staff kitchen
• Staff accommodation at remote lodges

• If you worked in a star-graded hotel, say which grading. It tells them the standard you already know.
• Write how many rooms you usually cleaned per shift. Head housekeepers care about pace as much as quality.
