Refrigeration Mechanic (Supermarket Maintenance)

The air-conditioning maintenance company in Somerset West needs an HVAC technician who knows both the electrical side and the refrigerant side. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

The work is in Somerset West, Western Cape, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day.

• Clean coils, replace filters and check drain lines on scheduled services
• Service cold rooms, display fridges and freezers on planned maintenance routes
• Recover refrigerant into cylinders and log every kilogram used
• Install split units, cassettes and ducted systems, including brazing and vacuum work
• Respond to temperature alarms from cold rooms before stock is lost
• Pressure test with nitrogen, pull a deep vacuum and charge with R410A, R32 or R134a
• Commission new systems and show the client how to use the controls

• At least 2 years servicing commercial or residential systems
• Code 08 driver's licence, since the job is mostly on the road
• Comfortable on roofs and ladders in summer heat
• Refrigeration and air-conditioning trade test or an NQF 4 occupational certificate
• Understanding of single- and three-phase control circuits
• Brazing, flaring and vacuum skills you can demonstrate

• Experience with VRF systems or chillers
• Building management system alarm handling

• Company vehicle with a fitted tool rack
• Manufacturer training on new equipment ranges
• Gauge manifold, vacuum pump and recovery unit issued to you

• Your SAQCC Gas card must be current. Put the expiry date on your CV so nobody has to ask.
• Mention whether you are comfortable on standby. Most service jobs in this trade include it.
