Restaurant Waitron (Steakhouse)

You'll look after tables at a beachfront cocktail bar in Pietermaritzburg, from the first greeting to the final bill. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

The site is in Pietermaritzburg; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. Start date: as soon as possible for the right person.

• Mix cocktails, pour draught and serve shooters to spec at the bar.
• Carry plates to the right seat without auctioning food at the table.
• Greet guests, seat them and hand over menus within a minute of arrival.
• Refuse service to anyone under 18 or visibly drunk, as the Liquor Act requires.
• Split bills, process card payments and handle tip-outs at the end of shift.
• Pull espresso shots and steam milk for flat whites and cappuccinos.

• You speak clear English and can chat easily with guests
• Quick with basic maths and card machines
• Neat grooming and a friendly manner under pressure
• Own transport or a safe way home after late shifts
• At least 6 months of waitering, bar or coffee shop experience
• You can stand and walk for a full 8-hour shift

• A barista course certificate or latte-art skills
• Responsible Service of Alcohol training

• You keep your own tips, paid out daily or weekly
• Staff meal on every shift
• Late-shift lift home within a set radius
• Uniform supplied and laundered

• Walk in with your CV between 2pm and 4pm when managers have time, not during lunch or dinner service.
• Put the names of the restaurants you worked at and your average covers per shift at the top of your CV.
