Roof Bolter Operator (Underground Coal)

You'll operate heavy mining machines on shift at the contract mining company near Rosslyn. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

This post is Rosslyn-based, with most of your time spent at a contract mining company.

• Refuel and wash the machine at the end of your shift where required
• Respect the collision avoidance system warnings and park-up rules
• Drill blast holes to the plan depth and angle marked by the survey team
• Keep radio contact with the dispatch controller and follow the right-of-way rules
• Report defects and lock out the machine for the maintenance crew
• Complete the pre-use inspection checklist for your trackless mobile machine

• Code 10 or Code 14 driver's licence
• Certificate of fitness from a mine medical practitioner
• At least 2 years operating the machine in a mining environment
• Valid operator certificate for the specific machine, from an MQA-accredited provider
• Grade 10 at minimum, with Grade 12 strongly preferred

• Machine training instructor experience
• Fatigue management or defensive driving training
• Certificates on two or more machine types

• Medical aid subsidy
• Annual performance bonus
• Company bus from nearby towns to the mine gate
• Shift allowance for night and weekend shifts

• If you live near the mine, say so. Local applicants are often preferred under the Social and Labour Plan.
• Put your operator certificate expiry dates on the CV. Expired tickets are the top reason operators get filtered out.
