Seasonal Fruit Picker (Citrus Harvest)

You'll pick, prune and look after crops on a berry tunnel farm near Germiston through the season. Good for someone who wants to build a solid track record they can put on their CV.

Home base is a berry tunnel farm on the Germiston side of Gauteng. Start date: as soon as possible for the right person.

• Follow the re-entry times after spraying, as the signs show
• Weed beds by hand or with a hoe
• Keep your picking card or tag count for daily pay
• Tie up tomato and pepper plants in tunnels
• Plant seedlings in rows at the spacing shown
• Clean and store picking bags, ladders and secateurs

• Physically fit for bending, lifting and climbing ladders
• Able to work outdoors in heat, cold and rain
• Follows farm hygiene and safety rules
• Available for the full harvest season
• Valid ID or work permit
• Willing to start at sunrise

• Chance of a permanent post after good seasons
• Farm transport from nearby towns
• Seasonal accommodation on some farms

• Farms hire before the season starts, so apply four to six weeks early. Late arrivals often find the teams already full.
• If you have picked before, say which crop and how many seasons. Farms rehire experienced pickers first.
