Section Miner (Chrome Mine) – Fixed-Term

Underground, the miner sets the pace and the safety standard. This deep-level gold mine near Paarl needs that person. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

You'll be based at a deep-level gold mine in Paarl. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

• Hold a start-of-shift safety talk and deal with any unsafe condition
• Book explosives in and out of the magazine and keep the register accurate
• Mark off drilling holes to the standard pattern and check the drilling
• Clear the area, post guards and blast on time as the blasting certificate allows
• Test for flammable gas and check ventilation before and after blasting
• Charge up holes and connect initiation systems for the blast
• Bar down loose rock and install support to the section's support standard

• Certificate of fitness from the mine medical station, including heat tolerance screening where required
• At least 3 years underground, with at least 1 as a certificated miner
• Able to lead a crew of 8 to 20 people in a language they understand
• Valid blasting certificate issued under the Mine Health and Safety Act
• No serious safety transgressions in your record
• Sound knowledge of your commodity's mining method and support standards

• Experience in trackless mechanised sections
• Rock engineering or ventilation short courses
• First aid certificate current

• Housing or living-out allowance
• Medical aid and mine medical station access
• Pension fund with employer contributions
• Underground allowance for every shift below surface

• Write your blasting certificate number and date of issue near the top of the CV.
• Mines check your safety record with previous employers. Mention any safety awards or zero-harm periods your crew achieved.
