Section Miner (Chrome Mine)

Have a blasting certificate and a clean safety record? The mechanised hard-rock mine near Potchefstroom needs your crew leadership. It suits someone who likes knowing exactly what a good day's work looks like.

This post is Potchefstroom-based, with most of your time spent at a mechanised hard-rock mine. Start is planned for the beginning of next month.

• Charge up holes and connect initiation systems for the blast
• Hold a start-of-shift safety talk and deal with any unsafe condition
• Test for flammable gas and check ventilation before and after blasting
• Mark off drilling holes to the standard pattern and check the drilling
• Report misfires straight away and handle them strictly by the procedure
• Do the early entry examination and make the workplace safe before the crew enters
• Stop work when a condition is unsafe, using your right to withdraw

• Certificate of fitness from the mine medical station, including heat tolerance screening where required
• No serious safety transgressions in your record
• Grade 12 or equivalent, plus the MQA-accredited miner training
• Valid blasting certificate issued under the Mine Health and Safety Act

• First aid certificate current
• Shift Supervisor certificate or Mine Overseer learning

• Pension fund with employer contributions
• Underground allowance for every shift below surface
• Production bonus based on metres or square metres achieved
• Medical aid and mine medical station access

• Mines check your safety record with previous employers. Mention any safety awards or zero-harm periods your crew achieved.
• Write your blasting certificate number and date of issue near the top of the CV.
