Senior Associate (Corporate and Mergers) – Fixed-Term

You'll run your own files from instruction to judgment at a mid-sized commercial law firm in Johannesburg CBD. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

Home base is a mid-sized commercial law firm on the Johannesburg CBD side of Gauteng.

• Manage a portfolio of litigation or advisory matters on your own
• Supervise and train candidate attorneys and paralegals
• Negotiate settlements and draft settlement agreements
• Appear in the magistrate's court, CCMA, Labour Court or High Court as your matters need
• Brief counsel and prepare them for trial and opposed motions
• Track legislation changes that affect clients' businesses

• LLB and admission as an attorney of the High Court of South Africa
• Sound judgement under deadline pressure
• Right of appearance in the High Court for litigation posts
• At least 2 years of post-admission experience in the relevant field
• Able to manage client relationships without a senior in the room
• Enrolled with the Legal Practice Council and holding a current Fidelity Fund certificate if you handle trust money

• Existing client following
• LLM or postgraduate certificate in your specialist area
• Certificate in data protection or compliance

• Clear path to directorship at some firms
• Hybrid work outside court days

• Firms check your LPC standing, so get your certificate of good standing before you apply.
• Lead with your admission year, practice area and the courts or forums you appear in.
