Shift Supervisor (Underground Coal)

This underground platinum mine near Potchefstroom needs a miner who makes every workplace safe before a single hole is drilled. People who do well here are steady, honest and not scared to ask when something is unclear.

This post is in Potchefstroom (North West). Please only apply if you can travel there daily.

• Do the early entry examination and make the workplace safe before the crew enters
• Mark off drilling holes to the standard pattern and check the drilling
• Bar down loose rock and install support to the section's support standard
• Hold a start-of-shift safety talk and deal with any unsafe condition
• Stop work when a condition is unsafe, using your right to withdraw

• No serious safety transgressions in your record
• Grade 12 or equivalent, plus the MQA-accredited miner training
• Able to lead a crew of 8 to 20 people in a language they understand
• At least 3 years underground, with at least 1 as a certificated miner
• Valid blasting certificate issued under the Mine Health and Safety Act
• Sound knowledge of your commodity's mining method and support standards

• Shift Supervisor certificate or Mine Overseer learning
• Experience in trackless mechanised sections
• First aid certificate current

• Housing or living-out allowance
• Production bonus based on metres or square metres achieved
• Pension fund with employer contributions

• Write your blasting certificate number and date of issue near the top of the CV.
• Be honest about any section 54 stoppages you were involved in and what you changed after.
