Shutter Hand (Concrete Formwork)

You'll build it with your hands: walls, floors, roofs and finishes on the low-cost housing project in Ermelo. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

The site is in Ermelo; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying.

• Clean your tools and sweep your work area before knocking off
• Lay face brick and plaster brick to line, level and plumb
• Build and strip formwork for columns, beams and slabs
• Tile floors, showers and splashbacks, including cutting around fittings
• Fix roof trusses, purlins and brandering for ceilings
• Lay paving on a compacted, levelled bedding sand layer
• Carry bricks and materials to the workface and keep the scaffold clear

• Physically strong enough for a full day of lifting and bending outside
• Punctual every morning, even in winter
• Safety boots of your own for the first week, if possible
• Willing to move between sites in the same city
• Understands basic site safety like scaffolds and open trenches

• Your own trowels, levels and tile cutter
• Trade test in bricklaying, carpentry or plastering
• CETA or NQF 2 or 3 certificate in your trade

• PPE supplied: hard hat, gloves, reflective vest
• Chance to move up to a gang leader post
• Weekly or fortnightly pay, always on time

• Be ready to do a short practical test on site. Arrive early with your own tools if you have them.
• Say which trade you are strongest in first. "Bricklayer, 6 years, face brick" is better than "general construction".
