Shutter Hand (Concrete Formwork)

Good, straight work gets noticed on this residential renovation company in Pietermaritzburg, and so does turning up every day. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

You'll report in Pietermaritzburg. Relocation is not covered for this one. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

• Lay paving on a compacted, levelled bedding sand layer
• Plaster walls and float them to a smooth, even finish
• Wear your hard hat, boots and harness wherever the foreman says
• Clean your tools and sweep your work area before knocking off
• Tile floors, showers and splashbacks, including cutting around fittings
• Fix roof trusses, purlins and brandering for ceilings

• Willing to move between sites in the same city
• Punctual every morning, even in winter
• Understands basic site safety like scaffolds and open trenches
• Physically strong enough for a full day of lifting and bending outside
• Proven experience in at least one trade, shown by references or a practical test
• Able to follow a foreman's instructions and read basic measurements

• Your own trowels, levels and tile cutter
• Trade test in bricklaying, carpentry or plastering
• CETA or NQF 2 or 3 certificate in your trade

• Transport from a pick-up point to site
• Chance to move up to a gang leader post
• UIF and COIDA registration from day one
• PPE supplied: hard hat, gloves, reflective vest

• Be ready to do a short practical test on site. Arrive early with your own tools if you have them.
• Say which trade you are strongest in first. "Bricklayer, 6 years, face brick" is better than "general construction".
