Shutter Hand (Concrete Formwork) – Experienced

The school construction project in Pretoria East needs skilled hands and helpers who know the basics of the building trade. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

Home base is a school construction project on the Pretoria East side of Gauteng.

• Build and strip formwork for columns, beams and slabs
• Prime and paint walls, ceilings and woodwork in two or three coats
• Tile floors, showers and splashbacks, including cutting around fittings
• Plaster walls and float them to a smooth, even finish
• Clean your tools and sweep your work area before knocking off
• Cut, bend and tie reinforcing steel to the bending schedule
• Lay face brick and plaster brick to line, level and plumb

• Understands basic site safety like scaffolds and open trenches
• Willing to move between sites in the same city
• Physically strong enough for a full day of lifting and bending outside
• Proven experience in at least one trade, shown by references or a practical test
• Safety boots of your own for the first week, if possible
• Able to follow a foreman's instructions and read basic measurements

• Chance to move up to a gang leader post
• Weekly or fortnightly pay, always on time
• Transport from a pick-up point to site

• Say which trade you are strongest in first. "Bricklayer, 6 years, face brick" is better than "general construction".
• Bring photos of your work on your phone. A foreman believes a straight wall more than a long CV.
